Course Objective & Scope
Selenium scripts built without architectural structure or littered with hard-coded sleeps break on the first UI update and quickly become shelfware. This course teaches how to build a maintainable, modular and CI/CD-ready web test automation framework with Selenium WebDriver 4 in Java, C# or Python.
It covers the W3C WebDriver architecture, resilient CSS/XPath locator strategies for dynamic DOMs, synchronisation with Explicit and Fluent Waits, advanced browser interactions (Actions API, iframes, multi-window, Shadow DOM, file uploads), Page Object Model (POM) design, data-driven testing (JUnit/TestNG, NUnit or pytest), parallel execution on Docker / Selenium Grid 4, and Allure reporting. Participants leave with a reusable automation starter template tailored to their stack.
Who Should Attend?
- QA and test specialists transitioning from manual web testing to automation
- SDETs fixing flakiness and maintainability problems in existing Selenium suites
- Test teams building cross-browser (Chrome, Firefox, Edge, Safari) regression packs
- Prerequisite: basic Java, C# or Python programming and familiarity with HTML/DOM
Key Takeaways
- Craft resilient CSS selectors and XPath axes that survive dynamic UI attributes
- Eliminate hard-coded sleeps by handling async UI state with Explicit and Fluent Waits
- Structure a clean automation framework using the Page Object Model and reusable driver managers
- Build parameterised data-driven tests with automatic failure screenshots and Allure reports
- Run cross-browser tests in parallel on Selenium Grid 4 and Docker containers
Curriculum
Selenium WebDriver 4 Architecture and Locator Strategies
- The W3C WebDriver protocol, Selenium Manager and automatic driver provisioning
- ID, data-testid, CSS Selectors and advanced XPath functions (contains, starts-with, axes)
- Selenium 4 Relative Locators and rules for avoiding brittle selectors
Synchronisation and Advanced Web Element Interactions
- Implicit, Explicit (WebDriverWait/ExpectedConditions) and Fluent Waits compared
- Diagnosing and fixing StaleElementReferenceException and ElementClickInterceptedException
- Select dropdowns, Actions API (drag-drop, hover), Alerts, IFrames, Shadow DOM and multi-window handling
Page Object Model (POM) and Automation Framework Design
- Separating test intent from page mechanics with Page and Component classes
- Thread-safe WebDriver management, environment configuration and BasePage/BaseTest layers
- Lifecycle hooks, tagging (smoke, regression) and assertions with TestNG / JUnit 5 / NUnit / pytest
Data-Driven Testing, API-Assisted Setup and Reporting
- Parameterised test execution driven by JSON, CSV and external datasets
- Seeding test state and authentication via APIs/cookies before launching the UI
- Automatic failure screenshots, DOM snapshots and Allure Report integration
Selenium Grid 4, Docker and CI/CD Integration
- Headless execution, WebDriver BiDi basics and spinning up Selenium Grid 4 with Docker Compose
- Parallel test execution, retry policies and GitHub Actions / GitLab CI / Jenkins integration
