Course Objective & Scope
With direct out-of-band communication across Chromium, WebKit and Firefox, millisecond-fast isolated BrowserContexts and its built-in Trace Viewer, Playwright has quickly become the benchmark for modern end-to-end test automation. This course goes beyond basic clicks to unlock Playwright's full engineering toolset.
It covers user-facing Locators (getByRole, getByLabel), web-first assertions, reusing authentication via storageState, custom test fixtures combined with Page Objects, hybrid API + UI testing with APIRequestContext, network mocking and HAR replay with page.route, visual comparisons and sharded parallel execution in CI.
Who Should Attend?
- QA and SDET engineers building fast, low-maintenance browser and API automation suites
- Testing and development teams migrating from Selenium or Cypress to Playwright
- Frontend and full-stack developers verifying applications end to end across browsers
- Prerequisite: basic JavaScript/TypeScript (or Python/.NET/Java for language-specific cohorts)
Key Takeaways
- Eliminate timing flake using accessibility-driven
getByRolelocators and auto-retrying web-first assertions - Run hundreds of tests in parallel without repeated logins using
BrowserContextisolation andstorageState - Build clean, composable Page Objects and test setup hooks using Playwright's custom Fixture system
- Combine UI steps with direct backend calls and network mocks via
APIRequestContextandpage.route - Diagnose CI failures in seconds with Playwright Trace Viewer DOM snapshots, console logs and network timelines
Curriculum
Playwright Architecture, BrowserContexts and User-Facing Locators
- Out-of-band WebSocket protocol and Browser vs BrowserContext vs Page isolation
- User-facing Locators (
getByRole,getByText,getByLabel), filtering and chaining - Auto-waiting actionability checks and Web-First Assertions (
expect(locator).toBeVisible())
Advanced Interactions, Multi-Context Flows and Authentication
- Multi-tab popups and running multiple BrowserContexts in one test (e.g. admin and customer chat)
- Handling IFrames, Shadow DOM, file uploads/downloads and native dialogs
- Setup projects and sharing authenticated
storageStateacross worker processes
Playwright Fixtures and Page Object Architecture
- Creating custom fixtures with
test.extendand automatic setup/teardown lifecycles - Injecting Page Objects through fixtures for clean, boilerplate-free tests
- Multi-project
playwright.config.ts, device emulation, geolocation and clock mocking
API Testing (APIRequestContext) and Network Routing
- Standalone REST/GraphQL API testing and payload assertions with the
requestfixture - Hybrid flows: seeding data via API and asserting user journeys in the UI
- Intercepting, modifying and mocking traffic with
page.routeand replaying HAR files
Visual Comparisons, Trace Viewer and CI/CD Sharding
- Visual regression testing and dynamic element masking with
toHaveScreenshot() - Post-mortem debugging with Trace Viewer timelines, live DOM snapshots and network logs
- Docker execution, parallel workers, multi-machine
--shardsplitting and CI reporting
