Course Objective & Scope
On modern single-page applications (React, Vue, Angular, Next.js), traditional out-of-process browser drivers often suffer from timing race conditions and slow feedback loops. Running directly inside the browser runtime, Cypress provides built-in retry-ability, native network control and time-travel debugging.
This course covers Cypress's asynchronous command queue, query chaining and assertions, intercepting and stubbing API traffic with cy.intercept, programmatic authentication with cy.session, Custom Commands, Component Testing and CI/CD integration. Participants build a fast, deterministic e2e and component test suite on a sample SPA.
Who Should Attend?
- QA automation engineers and SDETs testing modern web applications (SPAs)
- Frontend developers writing e2e and component tests for their own features
- Product teams setting up fast browser checks on every pull request
- Prerequisite: basic JavaScript/TypeScript and HTML/CSS knowledge
Key Takeaways
- Master the Cypress command queue, subject chaining (
then,wrap, aliases) and built-in retry-ability - Await, assert on and stub backend network calls for edge cases using
cy.intercept - Slash suite runtimes with programmatic login and state caching via
cy.session - Organise scalable suites using typed Custom Commands, fixtures and clean data selectors
- Combine e2e flows with isolated Component Tests and run them in parallel in CI
Curriculum
Cypress Architecture, the Command Queue and Retry-Ability
- How Cypress differs from WebDriver: in-browser execution, Test Runner and Time-Travel debugging
- The asynchronous command queue (why commands are not Promises): get, find, contains, should
- Subject management,
.then()vs.should(),cy.wrap()and@aliaspatterns
Network Control, Spying and Stubbing with cy.intercept
- Replacing arbitrary
cy.wait(ms)calls with deterministiccy.intercept()andcy.wait('@alias') - Balancing real-backend e2e flows against fixture-driven API stubbing
- Simulating network throttling, 500 server errors and empty states on demand
Authentication (cy.session), Custom Commands and State Setup
- Bypassing repetitive UI logins with
cy.request()and caching state viacy.session() - Testing cross-domain SSO/OAuth login flows with
cy.origin() - Typed Custom Commands and running Node/database setup tasks with
cy.task()
Cypress Component Testing and Accessibility Checks
- Mounting and testing React/Vue components in isolation inside a real browser
- Automated accessibility (a11y) checks with cypress-axe and testing file uploads/downloads
CI/CD Pipelines, Reporting and Flake Prevention
- Configuring
cypress.config.ts, environment variables, artefacts and Mochawesome/Allure reports - Official Docker images, spec parallelisation and a flake-free Cypress checklist
