About the Course

Successful digital transformation and automation initiatives depend on accurately understanding existing workflows and eliminating inefficiencies before writing a single line of code. This course provides an end-to-end methodology for discovering enterprise processes, modeling them with BPMN 2.0 standards, and stripping out non-value-adding activities.

Participants diagnose bottlenecks in current-state (As-Is) workflows using root-cause and value-stream analysis, then architect streamlined future-state (To-Be) processes.

Target Audience and Prerequisites

  • Process analysts, business analysts, operational excellence specialists, and organizational design professionals
  • Team members leading process improvement ahead of ERP, BPM, or RPA automation initiatives
  • No prior technical prerequisites are required; general familiarity with business operations is sufficient

Key Takeaways

  • BPMN 2.0 Modeling: Build clear, standards-compliant process maps using pools, lanes, gateways, events, and subprocesses
  • Bottleneck and Waste Analysis: Pinpoint handoff delays, rework loops, and approval bottlenecks using Lean and root-cause tools
  • To-Be Process Design: Architect optimized future-state workflows ready for standardization and digital automation
  • Process Documentation: Create structured process charters, SIPOC diagrams, and RACI responsibility matrices

Curriculum

Process Architecture, Discovery, and SIPOC Analysis
  • Shifting from functional silos to process-centric thinking and enterprise process hierarchies (APQC framework)
  • Scoping process boundaries with SIPOC (Suppliers, Inputs, Process, Outputs, Customers) diagrams
  • Conducting current-state (As-Is) discovery through stakeholder workshops, Gemba walks, and log review
Applied Process Modeling with BPMN 2.0 Standards
  • Core BPMN 2.0 elements: activities, task types, collapsed/expanded subprocesses, and Pool/Lane design
  • Controlling sequence flow with Exclusive (XOR), Parallel (AND), Inclusive (OR), and Event-Based gateways
  • Modeling happy paths and exception handling using Start, Intermediate, and Boundary Events (Timer, Message, Error)
As-Is Process Analysis: Bottlenecks, Root Cause, and Value Analysis
  • Value-Added vs. Non-Value-Added activity classification and identifying the 8 wastes of Lean
  • Analyzing cycle times, organizational handoffs, resource utilization, and queue bottlenecks
  • Applying root cause analysis techniques: Ishikawa (Fishbone), 5 Whys, and Pareto analysis
To-Be Process Redesign, Automation Readiness, and Rollout
  • Process redesign heuristics: activity parallelization, eliminating redundant approvals, and decision automation
  • Evaluating process steps for workflow engine, RPA, and AI automation suitability
  • Authoring process charters, RACI matrices, and change management plans for To-Be implementation
