Course Objective & Scope
APIs written by different teams under different rules drive up integration costs. This course is language- and framework-agnostic; its goal is an API design guideline that can be applied across the organisation.
Resource and URI modelling, HTTP semantics, status codes, filtering and pagination, versioning strategies, the ProblemDetails error format, idempotency keys, caching headers, OAuth2 authorisation and contract-first design with OpenAPI 3.1 are covered. Participants write an OpenAPI specification for a business domain chosen from their organisation, define lint rules with Spectral and prepare an API design checklist.
Who Should Attend?
- Backend developers building APIs
- Frontend and mobile developers consuming APIs
- Integration and solution architects
- Platform teams defining API standards
Key Takeaways
- Translate a business domain into resources and a consistent URI structure
- Use HTTP methods and status codes according to their semantics
- Define organisational standards for versioning, pagination and error format
- Write and lint a contract-first specification with OpenAPI 3.1
- Apply idempotency and backward-compatibility rules
