Course Objective & Scope
Microservices built along the wrong boundaries turn into a distributed monolith. Independent of language and framework, this programme addresses at the architectural decision level when to move to microservices and how to decompose services.
It covers defining service boundaries with bounded contexts, database-per-service and data consistency, synchronous/asynchronous communication, API gateway and BFF, circuit breaker, retry and timeout patterns, deployment with containers and Kubernetes, and observability with a service mesh and OpenTelemetry. Participants draft a decomposition map and a strangler-fig-based migration plan for their own systems.
Who Should Attend?
- Software and solution architects
- Tech leads deciding on a move to microservices
- Senior backend developers
- DevOps and platform engineers
Key Takeaways
- Assess the cost of microservices and the modular monolith alternative
- Justify service boundaries using bounded contexts
- Use sagas and the outbox pattern for cross-service data consistency
- Achieve resilience with circuit breakers, bulkheads and timeouts
- Establish end-to-end traceability with logs, metrics and traces
