Course Objective & Scope
Simply placing a human at the end of an AI workflow does not guarantee safety if reviewers suffer from alert fatigue or rubber-stamp outputs without scrutiny. This program teaches business and operational leaders how to design meaningful human oversight and clear accountability lines across AI-assisted processes.
Participants learn to calibrate autonomy levels (human-in-the-loop, human-on-the-loop, and full automation), define escalation triggers for high-stakes decisions, and map RACI accountability matrices. In a customized workshop, teams design human review gates and audit trails for their own workflows.
Who Should Attend?
- Department heads, operations leaders, and process owners overseeing AI-assisted workflows
- Decision-makers in HR, finance, underwriting, procurement, customer care, and legal functions
- Risk management, internal audit, compliance, and corporate governance professionals
- No coding or technical prerequisites required
Key Takeaways
- Assign appropriate autonomy levels (in-the-loop, on-the-loop, out-of-the-loop) based on impact and reversibility
- Prevent rubber-stamping and cognitive offloading by designing active human review protocols
- Define clear RACI accountability across prompt authors, reviewers, approvers, and process owners
- Establish clear escalation thresholds for edge cases, high financial exposure, or vulnerable stakeholders
- Implement lightweight audit logging and AI usage disclosure norms for internal and external deliverables
Curriculum
Autonomy Levels and Human Oversight Models
- Operationalizing Human-in-the-Loop (HITL), Human-on-the-Loop (HOTL), and Human-in-Command models
- Decision matrix: matching oversight intensity to error cost, volume, and decision reversibility
- High-stakes domains: HR screening, credit/pricing approvals, customer disputes, and legal communications
Defeating Rubber-Stamping and Automation Complacency
- Why reviewers stop paying attention when AI outputs look right 90% of the time
- Designing productive friction and active verification checklists that require genuine cognitive review
- Preventing skill erosion (deskilling) so staff remain qualified to catch subtle model errors
Accountability Chains (RACI) and Escalation Rules
- Why 'the AI wrote it' is never a valid defense: institutional and individual accountability
- Mapping RACI roles across operators, domain reviewers, approvers, and process owners
- Defining hard boundaries and escalation triggers where staff must override or halt AI assistance
Transparency, Audit Trails, and Oversight Workshop
- Disclosure norms: when and how to label AI-assisted work internally and externally
- Maintaining auditability of prompts, source documents, and human sign-off decisions
- Workshop: Designing a complete Human Oversight and Accountability Charter for a target workflow
