Course Objective & Scope
Many organisations still run business-critical web portals and internal applications on .NET Framework and ASP.NET MVC 5. This course is designed for teams adding features to existing MVC 5 projects, fixing performance and security issues, or preparing those codebases for a future move to ASP.NET Core.
It covers the IIS request lifecycle, RouteConfig and attribute routing, Controllers, Razor Views, ViewModels and DataAnnotations validation, Action/Exception filters, data access with Entity Framework 6, OWIN/Katana authentication and DI container (Autofac/Unity) integration. Participants apply clean layering on a sample enterprise MVC application and produce a maintenance checklist.
Who Should Attend?
- Developers maintaining and extending existing .NET Framework / ASP.NET MVC 5 applications
- Teams moving from Web Forms to MVC or cleaning up existing MVC codebases
- Developers structuring applications into clean layers ahead of an ASP.NET Core migration
- Prerequisite: C# and basic HTML/HTTP knowledge
Key Takeaways
- Configure the ASP.NET MVC 5 request lifecycle, routing rules and filters accurately
- Slim down bloated controllers using ViewModels, a service layer and a DI container
- Organise Razor views with layouts, partial views and bundling
- Eliminate query bottlenecks and N+1 problems in Entity Framework 6
- Establish architectural boundaries that simplify a future migration to ASP.NET Core
Curriculum
