Course Objective & Scope

Taking a multi-service system to production in the Java and Spring ecosystem requires choosing the right Spring components for inter-service calls, fault tolerance, event-driven data consistency and observability. This course turns microservices concepts into working code with Spring Boot 3 and Spring Cloud.

Spring Cloud Gateway, RestClient/HTTP Interfaces and gRPC, circuit breakers and bulkheads with Resilience4j, event-driven communication with Spring for Apache Kafka, transactional outbox and saga implementations, security with OAuth2 Resource Server, Micrometer Tracing/OpenTelemetry and integration testing with Testcontainers are built across an end-to-end sample system.

Who Should Attend?

  • Java developers experienced with Spring Boot who are building microservices
  • Teams transforming monolithic Java/JEE applications into Spring-based services
  • Software architects and tech leads setting Java platform standards
  • Prerequisite: Java and core Spring Boot development experience

Key Takeaways

  • Set up centralised routing, filtering and rate limiting with Spring Cloud Gateway
  • Protect service calls with Resilience4j circuit breakers, retries and time limiters
  • Code reliable event flows with Spring for Apache Kafka, the outbox pattern and idempotent consumers
  • Secure inter-service communication with Keycloak and Spring Security OAuth2
  • Deliver production-ready services with Micrometer Tracing, OpenTelemetry and Testcontainers

  • Boundary verification with Spring Modulith and decomposition criteria
  • Centralised configuration with Spring Cloud Config / Kubernetes ConfigMaps
Spring Cloud Gateway and Resilient Synchronous Calls
  • Routing, predicates/filters and Redis rate limiting with Spring Cloud Gateway
  • Declarative HTTP Interfaces, OpenFeign and gRPC integration
  • CircuitBreaker, Retry, Bulkhead and fallback patterns with Resilience4j
Spring for Apache Kafka, Outbox and Sagas

  • Outbox table, Debezium/polling publisher and idempotent consumers
  • Event-driven saga choreography and orchestration
Distributed Security and Identity Propagation
  • Spring Security OAuth2 Resource Server and Keycloak integration
  • JWT validation and token propagation from gateway to internal services
Observability, Contract Testing and Container Deployment
  • Micrometer Tracing, OpenTelemetry, Prometheus and Grafana/Loki integration
  • Service testing with Testcontainers and Spring Cloud Contract / Pact
