Course Objective & Scope

Vague promises such as "saving 30 minutes per employee per day" rarely convince finance or the board, while overly rigid early ROI hurdles can kill promising pilots. This course teaches leaders how to model both the costs and benefits of AI initiatives realistically and link them to staged funding decisions.

Total cost of ownership (TCO), hidden operational costs, leading and lagging KPIs, and baseline measurement via A/B testing are worked through on organisation-specific cases. Participants build a financial model and an investment-committee business case template for their own AI initiatives.

Who Should Attend?

  • CFO office, financial planning and analysis (FP&A) managers
  • Strategy, investment and portfolio management leaders
  • Business unit and product managers requesting budgets for AI projects
  • Digital transformation and PMO directors

Key Takeaways

  • Translate time savings, quality gains and revenue uplift into auditable financial metrics
  • Calculate full TCO including data preparation, token/inference, monitoring and change management
  • Build a KPI tree linking leading adoption indicators to lagging P&L outcomes
  • Define staged funding gate criteria across PoC, pilot and scale phases
  • Prepare an AI ROI business case with sensitivity analysis for the investment committee

Leading and Lagging KPI Architecture
  • System and model metrics (accuracy, latency, hallucination rate)
  • Operational and adoption metrics (active usage, task completion time)
  • Financial and customer metrics (cost per transaction, conversion, error cost)
Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) and Hidden Costs
  • Data cleaning, integration, security and compliance costs
  • Token/API consumption, GPU infrastructure, evals and ongoing monitoring
  • Change management, training and human-in-the-loop review costs
