Course Objective & Scope
Automating a broken, inconsistent process only produces errors faster. This course teaches how to make the current process (AS-IS) visible, strip out redundant approvals and rework, clarify decision rules and design an automation-ready target workflow (TO-BE) before writing a single workflow node.
Participants map a real process from their organisation using SIPOC and swimlane diagrams, decide which steps belong to deterministic rules, LLM inference or human review, and produce a Process Design Document (PDD) ready for implementation.
Who Should Attend?
- Business analysts, process improvement and operational excellence specialists
- Department managers leading automation and digital transformation initiatives
- PMO, quality and organisational development teams
- Citizen developers and automation builders
Key Takeaways
- Map AS-IS processes completely across systems, roles, inputs and exceptions
- Eliminate waiting, rework and unnecessary handoffs before automating
- Classify decision points into deterministic rules, AI inference and human approvals
- Score and prioritise candidate processes by volume, time saved, error risk and integration effort
- Deliver a TO-BE workflow and Process Design Document ready for build
Curriculum
Process Discovery and AS-IS Mapping
- Building SIPOC tables and swimlane process diagrams
- Surfacing hidden manual steps, spreadsheet workarounds and tribal rules
Bottleneck Analysis and Lean Simplification
- Removing wait states, duplicate data entry and redundant approval loops
- Input standardisation and error-proofing forms
Separating Rules, AI Steps and Human Decisions
- Deterministic rules for structured data versus LLM steps for unstructured inputs
- Exception taxonomy and escalation thresholds
Automation Readiness and ROI Prioritisation Matrix
- Scoring transaction volume, cycle time, error cost and system/API readiness
- Building a backlog of quick wins and strategic initiatives
TO-BE Design and the Process Design Document (PDD)
