Course Objective & Scope
Traditional rule-based automations break down when faced with unstructured emails, documents or multi-step reasoning. This course teaches how to combine deterministic workflow steps with autonomous AI agent nodes safely in n8n, including self-hosted enterprise setups.
Participants practise n8n AI Agent and LangChain nodes, structured JSON outputs, tool calling to internal systems, RAG integration with Qdrant/pgvector, human-in-the-loop approvals via Slack/Teams, and error/retry architecture. Each participant builds a working end-to-end prototype for an internal business process alongside a pre-release security checklist.
Who Should Attend?
- Business analysts, process improvement and operations specialists
- No-code/low-code builders and automation engineers
- Product teams and internal IT application developers
- Prerequisite: basic workflow logic and familiarity with JSON/API concepts
Key Takeaways
- Decide which workflow steps should be deterministic nodes and which should be AI agents
- Connect memory, system prompts and safe tools to n8n AI Agent nodes
- Format LLM outputs to match CRM, ERP and database schemas using Structured Output Parsers
- Insert human-in-the-loop approval and timeout steps before high-impact actions
- Implement error handling, fallback models, rate limiting and cost monitoring
Curriculum
n8n Architecture and Deterministic vs. Agentic Flows
- Triggers, data transformation, branching and sub-workflows
- When to use a fixed LLM chain versus a tool-calling agent
AI Agent Nodes, Memory and Structured Output
- Connecting OpenAI, Claude, Gemini and local (Ollama/vLLM) models
- Window buffer / database memory and JSON Schema Structured Output
Tool Calling and Enterprise Knowledge Base (RAG)
- Exposing sub-workflows and HTTP APIs as agent tools
- Document chunking, embeddings and vector retrieval nodes for corporate RAG
Human-in-the-Loop Approvals and Error Handling
- Wait nodes, email/Teams/Slack approval buttons and escalation logic
