Course Objective & Scope
Coding agents are not limited to interactive IDE sessions; triggered headlessly inside CI/CD pipelines, they can diagnose broken builds, complete breaking dependency upgrades, sync docs and tests, or turn well-scoped issues into draft pull requests overnight. This course teaches how to engineer safe, budget-bounded headless agent pipelines in GitHub Actions and GitLab CI.
Running Claude Code, Codex CLI and agent SDKs in non-interactive CI modes, automated CI failure diagnosis and autofix PRs, resolving Dependabot/Renovate breaking changes, preventing untrusted PR prompt injection from exfiltrating CI secrets, and enforcing human merge gates are practised hands-on.
Who Should Attend?
- DevOps, platform and CI/CD infrastructure engineers
- Senior software engineers and tech leads
- DevSecOps and Developer Experience (DevEx) teams
- Prerequisite: hands-on experience with GitHub Actions or GitLab CI/CD and containers
Key Takeaways
- Run coding agents in headless CI modes with strict timeout, turn and token budget caps
- Build workflows that diagnose failing CI jobs and open verified autofix suggestions or commits
- Automate well-scoped issue-to-draft-PR and breaking-dependency upgrade pipelines
- Harden CI agent workflows against prompt injection from untrusted issues, comments and fork PRs
- Enforce least-privilege GITHUB_TOKEN scopes, audit trails and mandatory human merge approvals
Curriculum
Headless Coding Agent Architecture and CI Triggers
- Non-interactive flags, structured JSON output, max-turns and dollar/token budget caps
- Selecting high-ROI background workloads: build repairs, dependency upgrades, test/doc sync and scoped issues
Automated CI Failure Triage and Autofix Workflows
- Parsing failed job logs to post root-cause diagnostics and GitHub/GitLab suggested changes
- Gating autofix commits so patches are proposed only when the full test suite passes
Issue-to-Draft-PR and Breaking Dependency Upgrades
- Turning
agent-readyissues and review comments into tested draft pull requests - Fixing breaking API changes on Dependabot/Renovate major-version upgrade branches
CI Agent Security: Prompt Injection and Secret Isolation
- Defending against prompt injection embedded in untrusted issue bodies, PR titles and fork diffs
- Minimal
GITHUB_TOKENpermissions, isolating production secrets from agent steps and trusted actor checks
Cost Guardrails, Loop Prevention and Human Merge Gates
- Preventing bot-triggers-bot infinite CI loops and enforcing daily spend circuit breakers
- Mandatory human review before merge and tracking PR acceptance/revert rates
