Course Objective & Scope

Electricity, natural-gas and water utilities, pipeline operators and critical infrastructure companies must monitor geographically dispersed assets (substations, feeders, valves, pumps, meters), reduce outage indices (SAIDI/SAIFI) and coordinate large field workforces safely. Distinct from power-generation and trading courses, this programme focuses directly on grid operations, infrastructure asset management and utility field services.

Participants work on a grid or infrastructure case from their own organisation, producing an asset-maintenance prioritisation framework, a field/GIS reporting template and a critical-infrastructure security checklist.

Who Should Attend?

  • Grid and network operations (OMS/DMS/SCADA) managers at electricity, gas and water utilities
  • Infrastructure asset management, capital planning and maintenance teams
  • Loss reduction, metering (AMI) and field-workforce management specialists
  • Transport, facility, municipal utility and critical-infrastructure operations leads

Key Takeaways

  • Prioritise asset maintenance and CAPEX replacement using fault history, asset age and environmental data
  • Analyse outage logs, customer trouble calls and crew reports to uncover SAIDI/SAIFI root causes
  • Structure visual-inspection workflows using drone, thermal and field imagery for lines, pipes and structures
  • Build incident-summary and crew-briefing workflows for severe weather and emergency restoration
  • Enforce critical-infrastructure cybersecurity, GIS topology confidentiality and HSE rules

Curriculum

AI Map Across Utilities and Critical Infrastructure
  • AI use cases across ISO 55001 asset management, grid ops and utility customer service
  • Turning SCADA, OMS, GIS and smart-meter (AMI) data into decision support
  • Metrics for CAPEX efficiency, reliability and service continuity
Asset Health, Visual Inspection and Predictive Maintenance
  • Asset Health Index and failure probability for transformers, feeders, pipes and pumps
  • Drone, LiDAR and field-photo inspection for insulators, corrosion and vegetation encroachment
  • Ranking maintenance and replacement CAPEX by risk-adjusted return
Outage Management (OMS), Loss Reduction and Field Coordination
  • Synthesising trouble calls and OMS logs for outage scope and estimated restoration (ETR) updates
  • Anomaly detection and targeted field dispatches for technical and non-technical losses
  • Converting field-crew repair notes into structured GIS and asset records
Infrastructure Tenders, Contractor Claims and Regulatory Reporting
  • Reviewing civil/utility construction specs, bills of quantities and contractor progress claims
  • Preparing quality, reliability and CAPEX compliance reports for regulators and municipalities
  • Summarising right-of-way, permitting and stakeholder correspondence
Critical Infrastructure Security, Resilience and HSE
  • Emergency restoration briefings during severe weather and natural-disaster events
  • Strict prohibitions on exposing grid topology and critical-facility coordinates
  • Field HSE verification and human-only sign-off for network switching decisions
