About the Course

Catching runtime errors at compile time has made TypeScript the industry standard for large-scale frontend and backend codebases. Moving well beyond basic type annotations, this course explores TypeScript's structural type system, control-flow type narrowing, and advanced type-level programming.

Participants learn to eliminate any completely and architect end-to-end type-safe applications using Generics, Mapped Types, Conditional Types, and runtime schema validation with Zod.

Target Audience and Prerequisites

  • Frontend (React, Angular, Vue) and Backend (Node.js) software engineers
  • Engineering teams migrating JavaScript projects to TypeScript or enforcing strict type safety in existing codebases
  • Solid working knowledge of modern JavaScript (ES6+) and asynchronous programming is required

Key Takeaways

  • Strict Type System Mastery: Leverage strictNullChecks, unknown, never, and Discriminated Unions for exhaustive safety
  • Reusable Generic Abstractions: Build flexible, strongly typed functions, classes, and components using Generics and constraints
  • Advanced Type Transformations: Master built-in Utility Types, Mapped Types, Template Literal Types, and infer
  • Runtime & API Boundary Safety: Combine compile-time types with Zod schema validation for bulletproof API layers

Curriculum

TypeScript Compiler Configuration, Strict Mode, and Structural Typing
  • Configuring tsconfig.json, enabling strict compiler flags, and integrating with modern bundlers
  • Structural typing fundamentals, choosing between type and interface, readonly, Tuples, and Literal types
  • Replacing any with unknown and enforcing exhaustiveness checking with the never type
Control-Flow Type Narrowing and Discriminated Unions
  • Control-flow analysis and narrowing types with typeof, instanceof, and in operators
  • Writing custom type predicates (is) and assertion functions (asserts)
  • Modeling complex domain states (Loading, Success, Error) safely with Discriminated Unions
Generics, Utility Types, and Advanced Type-Level Programming
  • Designing generic functions, interfaces, and classes with extends and keyof constraints
  • Under the hood of built-in Utility Types (Partial, Pick, Omit, Record, ReturnType, Awaited)
  • Building custom transformations with Mapped Types, Conditional Types, infer, and Template Literal Types
Declaration Files, Runtime Validation with Zod, and Type-Safe APIs
  • Authoring ambient declarations (.d.ts), module augmentation, and typing untyped third-party libraries
  • Typing asynchronous workflows, Promise utilities, and type-safe error handling with the Result pattern
  • Bridging compile-time and runtime safety using Zod schemas, z.infer, and strongly typed API clients
