Course Objective & Scope

Quantization is the most effective way to run the same model with less GPU memory and higher throughput, yet the wrong method can cause unnoticed losses in accuracy, non-English performance or tool-calling ability. The programme compares number formats (FP32, FP16, BF16, FP8, INT8, INT4), weight-only versus weight-and-activation quantization, and methods such as GPTQ, AWQ, SmoothQuant and GGUF k-quants.

In the labs participants convert the same model into different formats, run them on vLLM and llama.cpp, measure quality with a small eval set built from organisational data and produce a cost/performance comparison table.

Who Should Attend?

  • ML engineers responsible for model selection and optimisation
  • Technical leads aiming to cut in-house LLM costs
  • Prerequisite: Python and PyTorch/Transformers basics
